Somalia’s al Shabaab Disengagment Pathways: Somalia’s Defector Rehabiliation Programme (DRP)

Relying on ACTRI’s research and interviews with al Shabaab women defectors in Mogadishu, Somalia, the counternarrative provides a baseline for understanding the mechanics of disengagement and defection in Somalia as well as offers insights into possible avenues to encourage further defections and prepare those undertaking such a path to ultimately transition to a civilian life.

By cataloging the language, habits, outlets, and vulnerabilities exploited by violent extremist groups around the world, our research team directly collaborates with our media team to produce and disseminate experimental counternarrative strategies that blend the best of today’s experimental research methodologies with metric-driven digital advocacy.
